Today was an awesome day. Well, so far.

First, an important announcement: I've figured out how to put my own photos on this blog.  Get psyched.  And now for a recap of our day (promise I won't be doing this every day, I just happen to be really jazzed about blogging at the moment).  A motley crew of seven of us Kelloggers set out this morning with two goals: to see the Chatuchak weekend market and the Grand Palace.  We made it to one of the two (guess which), and are saving the other, accidentally-on-purpose, for tomorrow.  The weekend market was phenomenal.  Since it's Day 2, I was allowed to do a little shopping, and we browsed clothing, jewelry, and dried squid stalls for a few hours and picked up various items I will not disclose as I am here on student loans.  After getting our fill of street food and t-shirts, we hopped on a ferry up the Chao Phraya River to the Grand Palace.  There's nothing like a high-speed ferry ride past floating slums and temples alike to remind you you're not in Kansas anymore.  Of course we forgot to check the hours of the Grand Palace (after double and triple-checking the guidebook to make sure we were appropriately dressed in man-pris and closed-heeled shoes, which are kind of like closed-toed shoes...but opposite) so ended up spending the remainder of the afternoon at Wat Pho, the home of the "Reclining Buddha" statue, a 43-meter plaster and gold-plated Buddha that resides in a giant temple.  One look at the bottom of his mother-of-pearl feet was enough to make anyone consider changing religions.  A long, hard day of shopping and Buddha of course needed to be followed by riverside beers, so we headed to The Deck, a bar discovered by friends, to down a few extra-large Singhas and watch the sun set on Wat Arun, another spectacular temple.  While all that was amazing, I have to say that the best part of the day was our taxi ride home.  First tuk tuk (translation: terrifying, amazing, awesome automatic rickshaw) experience.  Four of us crammed in the back seat of a tiny three-wheeler smaller than a golf cart raced another tuk tuk crammed full of five of our friends.  Traffic has never been so exciting.  Tonight's evening outing: a ping pong show.  And not the kind with the paddles.  Probably won't be putting any more about that on the blog...
